How we begin

Every lip starts with a conversation.

We map your anatomy, talk through the techniques below, and agree on the shape before a single drop goes in. Not sure you're ready for filler at all? A lip flip — a few units of tox that gently roll the upper lip outward — is often the better first step, and we'll tell you so.

The fillers we use, and why

Six premium hyaluronic-acid gels, each chosen for a different job. Your injector matches the gel to your anatomy at your consultation — not the other way around.

·
Restylane Kysse

Lip-specific formulation — the softest, most flexible movement. Made for kissing, talking, smiling.

·
Juvéderm Ultra & Ultra Plus

The classic plump — richer volume and definition when a fuller lip is the goal.

·
Juvéderm Volbella XC

Silky and subtle — smooths fine lip lines with soft, hydration-level volume.

·
Revanesse Versa

Twenty percent more product than a standard syringe, with notably low swelling.

·
Revance RHA

Resilient HA built for expressive lips — it moves the way your face moves.

·
Belotero Balance

Ultra-smooth integration for delicate work — the choice for fine vertical lip lines.

What actually happens

No surprises, start to finish.

1
Numb & map

Strong topical numbing while your injector maps your anatomy and agrees the shape — and the technique — with you.

2
15–30 minutes

Precise, unhurried placement. Most patients rate discomfort two or three out of ten.

3
48 hours of swelling

Fullest the first two days; the true result settles by one to two weeks. Ice helps — skip the gym for a day.

4
About twelve months

HA softens gradually over nine to fifteen months. Refresh whenever you're ready — or let it fade.

The education

Anatomy & how lips age

The lips have three tissue zones — the white lip, the vermillion (red lip), and the vermillion border between them. Beneath the surface run the labial arteries, whose depth and path vary from person to person. Each zone ages differently and is treated differently, and respecting that vasculature is the foundation of safe filler work — which is exactly why lips belong only in experienced hands.

With age, lips become broader and thinner and show less of the upper teeth. The border loses definition, the cupid's bow flattens, and vertical lines develop. Underneath, the skeletal base offers less support while skin produces less oil and less of its own hyaluronic acid. Good filler work addresses these layers individually — never just "more volume."

The Classic technique
Classic lip filler technique result

Creates the heart-shaped lip: a full, defined cupid's bow with tapered edges and elegant side projection. The result reads hydrated and fuller-bodied. How much is right depends on your profile — a strong chin and facial projection call for lips that stay in proportion with the rest of your face.

The Russian technique — most requested

The "less is more" method behind today's natural look. Small vertical placements lift the cupid's bow and build height rather than pushing lips outward — a soft V, a shortened philtrum, and a doll-like pout that never reads overfilled. More injection points mean slightly more swelling or bruising, and existing border filler is usually dissolved first if a lot remains.

The Paris technique
Paris lip filler technique result

A cousin of the Russian, focused on the borders: HA sculpts crisp, defined edges and a poised pout, with delicate vertical placements running from the cupid's bow toward the nose. Extra support toward the lip edges creates that signature bottom-lip fullness.

Linear thread & lip tenting
Linear injection technique result

Linear thread: filler placed parallel to the vermillion border with needle or cannula — straightforward, and excellent for outward projection. In the example above, the goal was balancing facial symmetry with the chin. Done without restraint, border-heavy work risks migration and the "duck" look.

Lip tenting GK point technique result

Tenting (GK point): a series of deep, controlled injections entering on the collagen-rich white roll — strengthening the border and gently rolling a thin upper lip outward to show more pink tissue. Note the refined philtrum. Overdone, this too can create duck lip: another reason injector judgment matters more than product.

What's actually in the syringe

The finest lip fillers are hyaluronic-acid gels — Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC, Restylane, Revanesse Versa, Revance RHA. HA occurs naturally in your skin; injected, it also attracts water, giving a soft plumping effect beyond the volume of the gel itself. Fillers differ in thickness, flexibility, and cross-linking, which is why some are built for volume, some for movement, and some for fine lines.

Every filler we use can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Filler is a commitment you can undo.

Side effects, honestly

Mild bruising, temporary lumpiness, and swelling at the injection sites are normal and resolve on their own within days. Healing is generally pain-free, and your true result shows between one day and one week after treatment.

Choosing a skilled injector is the single biggest factor in avoiding the complications that matter. This is not a procedure to price-shop: look at reviews, before-and-afters, and word-of-mouth reputation. Properly placed filler lasts a year or more — and so does improperly placed filler.

Questions patients actually ask

Will my lips look fake?

Not here. Overfilled lips come from too much product placed too fast, usually border-heavy technique. We build gradually — most first-timers use a single syringe or less, and you approve the shape as we go.

Which technique should I ask for?

You don't have to decide alone — that's the consultation's job. Broadly: Russian for natural height, Classic for the heart-shaped fuller look, Paris for defined edges, tenting for thin upper lips. Your facial structure decides as much as your preference does.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on which filler suits your anatomy and how much you actually need — most first-timers need a single syringe or less. Current pricing for every filler we carry lives on our Aesthetic Injectables page, and Aesthetic Lounge members receive member pricing automatically. We also run packages that include lip filler — ask at your consult.

What if I don't like it?

Every filler we use is hyaluronic-acid based and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Filler is a commitment you can undo — which is exactly why we use it instead of permanent alternatives.

Lip flip or lip filler?

A lip flip relaxes the muscle so your existing lip shows more — subtle, lasting two to three months, and the lower-commitment starting point. Filler adds real volume and structure for about a year. Many patients love both together, and we'll tell you honestly which one your lips actually need.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Tox for the lines around your mouth is the classic pairing, and same-day resurfacing — Erbium YAG, Core 2, or Morpheus8 — means one healing window instead of several appointments.

Do you treat more than lips?

Yes — cheeks, chin, jawline, tox, and every filler we carry live on our Aesthetic Injectables page, including current specials.
